Dr. Paul T. Penley
How did he learn about Bible backgrounds?
Dr. Penley studied Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic in undergraduate and graduate programs at Columbia International University. But don't worry. He still knows how to crack a joke (sort of!?!). He researched the Bible in German and French and on site in Israel, Egypt, Turkey and Greece. Trinity Evangelical Divinity School gave him a Ph.D. for what he discovered.
Does he know what he's talking about?
His specialty is the historical context of Jesus and the Gospels, but his background research spans from Genesis to Revelation. T&T Clark (London) published the pinnacle of his academic research. But don't buy that academic book unless you're real bored (and like footnotes). Just know that serious scholars trust his work.
Does he know how to teach?
As a professor, he has taught college and seminary courses on How to Interpret the Bible, Jesus and the Gospels, Paul's Epistles, and Bible Backgrounds. He teaches Hermeneutics Seminars at churches and retreats, at Bible conference centers and summer programs. He talks about it over dinner, on the radio and with every interested audience. However, people still ask how they can get more. That’s why he writes.
